Communauté Emmanuel in Ituri

This church in eastern Congo is akin to the "Assembly of Believers. With some 250 local congregations, it is prominent in Ituri province. The church faces great challenges in a situation where corruption and ethnic violence are regular occurrences. The Immanuel community focuses on evangelism, education and medical work. Through medical work, the poor gain access to health care and groups are reached that would otherwise remain out of the picture. Dr. Isaac Mbabazi, national representative of the church, said, "In the midst of all the problems we have, it is important that we continue to trust in Christ. We also need partners to help us persevere and keep going.'
